Ballarat Racing Tips 24.08.2021 - 4 Synthetic Specialists

Ballarat hosts a Tuesday meeting on August 24, and we have our four best bets. The big Victorian stables are out in force, and we have our best bets for the thoroughbreds that love synthetic track racing.
  • Race 3 2:00pm AEST – No. 11 Strike Eagle
  • Race 5 3:00pm AEST – No. 8 Universal Lady
  • Race 6 3:30pm AEST – No. 1 Zoudini
  • Race 7 4:00pm AEST – No. 2 Court Deep

Race 3 2:00pm AEST – No. 11 Strike Eagle

The McEvoy-trained three-year-old owns three placings from five starts, and he meets a field there for the taking. He comes off a sixth at Flemington, where he finished 2.6 lengths behind Sunfall, so it’s excellent form for maiden racing. Sunfall has a bright future, so meeting non-race winners is ideal for a Tuesday race.

The son of More than Ready looked good running second at Morphettville twice, including a placing behind Taunting and Keeping Reading. Both runs came on a heavy surface, and he should be better on the synthetic surfaces. Barrier two is ideal, as he has shown good barrier speed, so there is nothing going against him. The $2 is a fair and expected price from bookmakers.

Race 5 3:00pm AEST – No. 8 Universal Lady

Universal Lady has been strongly backed to win after scoring at Ballarat last time out. The four-year-old daughter of Exceed and Excel scored by a narrow margin, but she was strong to the line and this grade shouldn’t hold her for too long. She has been in the money in five of her seven starts, so the consistency is there, and being unbeaten at Ballarat is a bonus.

Our only worry is the run she’ll get from barrier nine but having John Allen in the saddle helps. Her opening odds of $2.40 didn’t last long, which isn’t surprising.

Race 6 3:30pm AEST – No. 1 Zoudini

Zoudini has made an impressive start to his career with one win and four placings. The five-year-old scored his only win at Ballarat in July and it came by 2.5 lengths, so it’s a good form guide for this contest. He backed it up with a third placing on this track before running fifth last time out. Five of his seven starts have come at Ballarat, so he’s a course specialist.

Rising in distance should suit, as he’s typically slow to get away. He carries a big weight, but the 2kg claim brings him into contention. We’re surprised he’s not the favourite, but he could firm significantly on race day.

Race 7 4:00pm AEST – No. 2 Court Deep

Court Deep is a runner worth sticking with after scoring fresh up at Pakenham. The five-year-old son of Deep Field is a three-time winner from 11 starts, who won easily by 2.5 lengths last start. It was a comprehensive display, and it was his second win over this distance. He carried a big weight on that occasion, and thanks to the 4kg claim, he has just 57.5kg on his back.

Barrier 10 shouldn’t make much difference over this distance, and he has remained rock-steady in betting markets. The current odds should firm on race day, so it could pay to lock in the value.
