Ballarat racing takes place on Friday, March 7, with an eight-race program set down for Ballarat racetrack.
- Race 3 No. 12- Marina Di Campo
- Race 4 No. 7- Cecchetti
- Race 6 No. 2- Powerbound
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Ballarat racetrack.
Race 3 No. 12- Marina Di Campo
Marina Di Campo should be hard to beat in Race 3. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained galloper has had just the one start and was edged out late by Ultra Blue at Terang on February 14, with those two putting a big gap on the rest. Two horses out of that have since come out and won and the daughter of Merchant Navy went 1.2 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is three lengths better than the next best last start figure of any runner. She should have improvement to come at her second start and unless one of the debutants can produce something above average, she looks to be the one.
Race 4 No. 7- Cecchetti
Cecchetti can be an improver in Race 4 at Ballarat. The locally trained galloper faced a tough ask when tackling the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1800m) when resuming and will find this more to her liking. She stuck on in that race but faded over the last 300m. The Matt Cumani-trained galloper has the talent and was a notable improver on benchmark figures when second up at her last preparation when 4th behind the eventual Victoria Derby winner, Goldrush Guru, before placing an unlucky 3rd at Listed level at Flemington. Blinkers go on for the first time.
Race 6 No. 2- Powerbound
Powerbound looks well placed in Race 6. The five-year-old resumed at Pakenham on February 20 over the 200m and didn't enjoy much daylight from the 500m to the 200m before grinding into 5th position behind Maui Man. He comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner, while he was an eight-length improver when second up at his ast preparation. Step up to the 1400m will suit and he draws to save ground from barrier 1.
