Big bet placed on Stradbroke Handicap favourite

Bookmakers always take plenty of action during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and one punter has loosened up his wallet.

A $10,000 bet has been placed on the nose of one runner in the 2019 Stradbroke Handicap. The punter has confidence with current 5.50 favourite The Bostonian, which has won the Doomben 10,000 and Kingsford-Smith Cup already this carnival.

The bet was placed at odds of 6.00, which forced bookmakers to trim his odds a half-point to 5.50. However, that wasn't enough to deter the punter, who climbed in again with another $8000 plunge.

Tony Pike
The Bostonian has been heavily backed to win at Stradbroke Handicap

"The Tony Pike-trained gelding has continued his love affair with Queensland racing this campaign after taking out the Listed Daybreak Lover and Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas last year," the bookmaker representative said.

"The Bostonian was a $51 outsider with the fixed odds when victorious in the Doomben 10,000 before starting an $11 chance in the Kingsford-Smith Cup."

The brave punter stands to make $100,000 and they'll be happy to know we've got The Bostonian as our best bet in our 2019 Stradbroke Handicap Tips.
