The Goodwood takes place at Morphettville on May 15 and is the final Group 1 of the Adelaide Racing Carnival.
An 11-strong field will be lining up. Who will win the Morphettville feature?
The Goodwood Preview & Tips
Freshened up for this after a good autumn campaign that culminated in a third placing in the All Star Mile. One knock is that perhaps 1400m is his optimum distance but he is a high class horse and one of the key dangers, even if the 3.70 at time of writing looks unders.
Ran second in this race last year and comes in first up. He went to a new level last spring defeating Nature Strip in the Concorde Stakes before placing third in the Everest. He was most unlucky in last year’s edition of the race. Ideally drawn and should take a power of beating.
An absolute model of consistency, not having missed a place at his last six starts, which have included three wins at group level. Impossible to knock and you can make a case he should be shorter than some other key chances in the race.
4. Dirty Work
Coming off a couple of indifferent runs in Sydney and his record at 1200m (five attempts for one placing) is concerning. Likely to find himself in an awkward spot from barrier one as well. Looking around him.
Six-year-old who has done plenty of racing without much success of late and can’t see him figuring in this grade.
Ex-Northern Territory gelding who has finally found his niche – a tearaway leader in sprint races. Won well last start but might find this a bit rich.
7. Pretty Brazen
Worked through the line well in the Sangster albeit Rubisaki gave her windburn as she ran past and Rubisaki is lining up in a Group 3 on this program. Top four at best.
8. Beau Rossa
Did a good job to drop in trip and take out the Tobin Bronze last start but that was a fairly weak Group 2. Blinkers go on for the first time and they could spark improvement, but they will need to.
9. Instant Celebrity
Got the absolute dream run in the Sangster along the rail to win running away. Suspect that she had her birthday there and is looking for longer. From barrier 11 she will need some Jamie Kah magic (which is possible given her current form).
10. Prophet's Thumb
Had plenty of goes at this level and has failed to measure up, looking around her.
11. Dollar For Dollar
Woeful last time at Caulfield but if you overlook that, he is quite attractively weighted here on his best form. Perhaps one for the rougher multiples but at eight years old his best might be behind him.
The Goodwood Tips
If Gytrash brings his best form he should be a mile too good. That is a slight query given he is first up but given his fresh record and trial form, happy to back him in.
