The Memsie Stakes is a 1400m Group One contest run at Caulfield on August 29, but who will win the first Group One of the Melbourne Spring Carnival?

Superstars mares such as Mystic Journey and Arcadia have targetted the race while All-Star Mile winner Regal Power also lines up.

Last year's winner was the late Scales Of Justice, an emphatic winner, and we are expecting one of the mares to take out the race this year.

2020 Memsie Stakes Tips

Memsie Stakes 2020 Best Bet - Behemoth

He returned in fine style in the Spring Stakes at Morpettville, putting Dalasan to the sword and looking as if this is his WFA Group One to lose.

The Spring Stakes second place getter last year was Scales Of Justice, who then came out and won this race at his next start.

Behemoth has drawn barrier two and should map just behind the speed who will be Begood Toya Mother and Iconoclasm, just needing a split at the top of the straight.

His only start at Caulfield was in last years Regal Roller Stakes, where he was unlcuky at the top of the straight, losing all momentum.

We are just hoping that does not happen again as our best bet in the race.

Memsie Stakes 2020 Next Best Bet - Glenfiddich

He got better as his stepped up in trip last prep as a 2YO, tacking the Blue Diaond before running second in a Champagne Stakes at the end of his prep.

He has always looked a 3YO and this could be a race that he features in with just 50.5kg on his back.

He worked with Gatting just last week, celarly travelling the better and  looking the better horse.

Gatting won last years Makybe Diva Stakes first-up, so this accpetance of Gendifiddich could be a sign that he is going super.

The Guineas will be his target, but why can't he win a WFA Group One first-up?

Memsie Stakes 2020 Roughie - Princess Jenni

She is not a noted first-up specialist, but this is a big race for her to compete in first-up, so maybe that is some mail from the camp that she is going well.

The Empire Rose looks a perfect race for her this prep, but she has ran well first-up before, including making up a stack of ground on Super Saturday last prep in a weaker race.

She is all class on her day, and although has shown in previous preps that she is dynamite second-up, she may be wound up for this big test.

The wide gate just means she probably goes back to last, but if they can make ground, I would not be letting her go around without her in the exotics.
