Closing out the Sydney Autumn carnival is the All Aged Stakes run over 1400m at Randwick under weight-for-age conditions.
The Group 1 event was first run in 1865 and has been won by some champion sprinters including Peter Pan (1935), Bernborough (1946) and more recently Giga Kick (2023).
We’ve gone through every single runner in this year’s edition and offer our comments and top four selections below.
1. Private Eye (10)
Not everything has gone to plan for Joe Pride and his horse so far this prep but he is going far better than his form on paper suggests.
He went within a head of beating Imperatriz first up at headquarters and then had excuses in his last couple.
It will be interesting to see where they want him to be in the run from barrier 10 but I loved his trial win in between runs.
2. Golden Mile (13)
Put in one of his better runs in a while in the Group 1 George Ryder where he finished under two lengths from the winner Veight.
His record on a good track is superior to any other conditions which may be the trick to him and he likely gets those conditions on Saturday.
3. Buenos Noches (3)
We know what this guy is capable of but the problem is that we see it sparingly and he’s a tough one to trust.
He returned to a semblance of his best form when beaten just over two lengths from Chain Of Lightning in the T.J Smith two weeks ago but he is better suited with the strong out of the track.
4. Bandersnatch (12)
Ran into Another Wil in the Doncaster Prelude but was excellent in running second.
He’s been a consistent performer for a long time but has had seven goes at Group 1 level without placing.
5. Buffalo River (9)
Started this campaign with three placings in a row, two which were at the highest level of racing.
Has been a touch disappointing in his last couple but we know he’ll land on the speed and make his own luck.
6. Airman (11)
Came into this campaign with a good winning strike rate having won five of nine but has failed to fire a shot so far.
Was beaten just over a length first up behind Red Card and then three lengths behind Bandi’s Boy last time out, both of those horses have been beaten favourites since.
7. Amenable (14)
All reports out of the stable were that this horse was in for a really good prep after being gelding during his spell.
He was beaten as favourite at Flemington first up and then finished 4.6 lengths of Veight in the George Ryder.
He’s better suited at handicap conditions in my opinion but he is a capable of producing a rating high enough to be competitive on his day.
8. Chain Of Lightning (4)
The Peter Moody trained grey mare has put together two wins in a row including a peak ratings performance when taking out her first Group 1 in the T.J Smith two weeks ago.
There is no doubting that thing went her way in that race, and she had conditions to suit, but she’s a mare in good form and she’s hard to dismiss.
9. Espiona (8)
She’s always been somewhat of an enigma and a mare that rarely helps her own cause by doing plenty wrong.
Nothing went right for her in the T.J Smith and she was cramped for room at a vital stage in the straight but she burst clear and savaged the line once clear.
She would have won that race with clear running and she’s better out to this distance where she has won five of eight.
10. Sunshine In Paris (2)
One of the most progressive horses in the entire country who looks ready to peak at her third run this campaign.
She just missed at Group 1 level first up behind Zapateo and then finished under a length behind the winner in the T.J Smith.
Three of her four career wins have been on a good track and she’s one from one at this track and distance.
11. Magic Time (6)
Another progressive mare who has a huge amount of upside and is ready to peak.
The 2023 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner has been good without winning so far this campaign and she was beaten just over a length in the T.J Smith.
She’s another that is better suited on top of the ground and will appreciate the step up in distance now.
12. Southport Tycoon (5)
Has barely put a hoof wrong in his short racing career having finished in the top two in six of seven starts.
He turned the table on Veight in the Australian Guineas when scoring his maiden Group 1 and that form has been franked with that horse coming out and beating the older horses in the George Ryder at his next start.
Has drawn perfectly and has to be considered.
13. Encap (7)
This son of Capitalist has been a consistent performer over his career, placing in eight of his 11 career starts.
Has failed to place in his last couple but was far from disgraced when taking on the older horses in the George Ryder.
14. Tiz Invincible (7)
Yet to place from three starts this campaign and looks out classed at weight-for-age against the older horses.
