Race 6 - Matowatakpe (sixth)
Always takes a few runs to hit his straps does this Bjorn Baker-trained gelding, who was good fresh and off this second-up performance where he's recorded easily the fastest last 600m and 200m of the race, he doesn't look far away. Was competing on Saturday at BM78 level with a rating of only 69, so the option is there to come back to 72 grade, which may even be at midweek level.
Race 7 - Berdibek (second)
Was in this file following a luckless second-up performance and although not completely at home on a Heavy 8, especially against the hard-fit Stockman who relishes these conditions, Berdibek was clearing out from the rest of the field (fastest last 600m/400m of this McKell Cup). With many stayers well exposed in coming into July, this grey is perhaps one looking to peak for a Caloundra or Grafton Cup?
Race 9 - Harpo Marx (fifth)
After not having a whole lot of luck over his first six starts in Australia, this import started to strike in his second preparation, recording three wins from his last half a dozen outings in the summer and placed in the other attempts. 1500m is much too sharp for Harpo Marx (hasn't won below 2000m), but he was hard to miss late on return. Can still be placed at Benchmark level in the winter where we'll get a better gauge on his ceiling.
